About Alicante

Alicante is a lively coastal city located in the south east of Spain. The city is home to a mix of historical landmarks, beautiful beaches, and a fun cultural scene. Although it gets busy in peak season, Alicante is much quieter than other Spanish cities we’ve been to and definitely one of our favourites.

Alicante has a rich history dating back to the Roman era, and involving the Moors and Visgoths, influences of all these can be seen in the iconic Santa Barbara Castle that sits high above the city.

The Mediterranean climate brings long sunny days and mild winters, with an average of 320 days of sunshine each year in Alicante. This lovely, warm weather means that you can enjoy the beaches and wandering around the city whatever time of year you visit.

Alicante is popular with both International and Spanish tourists as well as locals who enjoy the lively beachfront promenades, diverse cuisine, and historic sites.

Travelling around Alicante

Alicante is a very walkable city, much smaller than cities such as Barcelona and Madrid, so it’s possible to walk between the main tourist attractions. We’ve visited most parts of Alicante now and have never needed to use public transport.

However, if you do need it there’s a good bus service around the Alicante city centre as well as a tram line, making it easy to get to all areas of the city.
